Client stories

International Justice Mission recently completed a program in the Dominican Republic that reduced the prevalence of minors being commercially exploited for sex by 78%. IJM hired Stewart Language Services to translate two technical studies and an external evaluation that pinpoint how the program was able to combat this crime against children so effectively. The translated versions allow IJM to share this success with other projects and organizations. International Justice Mission ©All rights reserved

For boutique subtitle vendor for Criterion Collection, Stewart Language Services translated special features for films like Pedro Almodóvar’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Wim Wenders’s Buena Vista Social Club. Projects required a nuanced understanding of several varieties of spoken Spanish, paired with creative writing to condense speech into natural-sounding subtitles. The resulting extras—a core part of Criterion’s brand—bring the stories behind these masterpieces to life for English-speaking movie lovers.

For the Colorado Office of the Public Defender, Stewart Language Services translated a large volume of evidence for a complex, cross-border homicide case spanning nearly 30 years and involving court proceedings in both Mexico and the U.S. The documents had an extremely wide range of registers, from handwritten journal entries to lengthy rulings from the Mexican federal court system and case law from the Mexican Supreme Court. Accuracy was paramount to ensure successful discovery and due process for the defendant.
